How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! (Psalms 133:1)
Each of us has a right to a satisfying combination of independence — (freedom from human restriction) and dependence — on God, Love. Independent living in a Christian Science community is an option that supports the desire to be “on your own” while within the embrace of a Christian Science environment.
Independent living can also be referred to as an active adult community, senior apartments, a retirement community, a 55+ community, or a retirement home. Independent living communities offer a wide range of housing arrangements: anything from apartment-style communities to housing co-ops to a section of a larger facility. In most cases, residents live in their own private spaces and have access to common areas where they can gather with other members of the community.
There are a number of independent living communities that cater to Christian Scientists. For many, this provides a perfect merging of liberty and love. Some are set within Christian Science facilities, while others are associated with, owned by, or managed by Christian Scientists. They differ in size, location, and ambience, but all provide a connection to other Christian Scientists, to a branch church, and to inspiring activities. The resources below can help you locate these communities.
