Medicaid is a state-administered program that covers certain health care services to individuals and families with very low incomes and resources. Medicaid eligibility and benefits are different in each state and are described in a state Medicaid Plan approved by the federal government.
Medicaid.gov provides specific information about Medicaid eligibility and enrollment in each state as well as a list of points of contact in each state for questions about Medicaid.
Like Medicare, Medicaid does not cover Christian Science practitioner services or Christian Science nursing services provided in one’s home. At the present time, Medicaid coverage is also not available at any Christian Science nursing facility. Under federal law, states have the option of including coverage of services in a religious nonmedical health care institution (RNHCI) in their state Medicaid Plans, and only Ohio and California have chosen to do so. Similarly, health care providers (like Christian Science nursing facilities) have the option of participating in Medicaid in those states. No Christian Science nursing facility in either of those states currently chooses to accept Medicaid.
Financial assistance for Christian Science nursing care (and related practitioner treatments) may, however, be available from an individual Christian Science nursing facility, or from one of several Christian Science foundations.
